Prayer for 7 year old rape victim

Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5

This is a verse that has really ministered to me the last few days as I have struggled with my emotions, thoughts and feelings towards the perpetrator of an unthinkable crime.  I have disciplined myself to surrender my thoughts and feelings to Jesus and allow Him to fill my cup back up to a place where I can be effective for the Kingdom.  Even after 12 years of serving the people here in Sudan nothing has prepared me for the turmoil I feel inside towards this wrongdoing.

It happened on Saturday evening when a young girl aged only 7 years was left to care for her younger siblings in her mud hut home.

When the mother returned she could not find the girl who has hearing and speech impediments.  But soon they heard the sobbing coming from the long grass near the home.  The girl was found lying in a pool of blood.  The initial reaction was to assume some kind of animal attack but the other children kept telling that it was a man.  Our doctors were able to confirm the worst fears, it was in fact a rape.

So many thoughts have crossed my mind but mostly as a mother I feel sick and helpless in my faith.  Our senior clinical officer called me early Sunday morning to come and counsel/pray for the family and child.  Lord you will need to take over this one as I have no idea what to say or how to encourage them.

Faith comes from hearing and so I read my bible and prayed before going over to the clinic for increased faith to believe in all of God’s promises.    So many people were there with this family.  I managed to get mum, dad and child alone.  As the Lord led we wept, prayed and read the bible together.  What started as blaming each other, anger and revenge turned into a time of sorrow and mourning.  They were now in a place of being able to turn their attention on the child and not the criminal, whose identity was unknown.  We prayed for the Lord to bring him to justice and before we had finished praying we found the man had been identified and ran away.  We are praising God for this as it is now only a matter of time before he is caught.

Would you please pray for this family, for their hearts to turn to God, to find forgiveness and to allow the authorities to represent them.  Revenge killing is normal for much less crimes than this, which is uncommon in this culture.

Pray for this young girl, that God would heal her tiny body and guard her from any infection, disease or long term damage.  Pray she would be freed and not haunted mentally from this trauma.

I plan to visit the family home later this week, pray for me as I have struggled myself and need wisdom and love for all involved.  Sabet is still in the USA so I could use some encouragement.

Psalm 145:3 was given to me by my Heavenly Father “Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised and His greatness is unsearchable.”

Thanks for praying with us through this difficult time.

San Diego Prayer Walk

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

I was so blessed by those who came to the prayer walk and took of their time to pray and walk together in our annual prayer walk this year. in Shelter Island, San Diego. The blessings of the brothers and sister to come before our mighty God, lifting In Deed and Truth Ministries and the new Republic of South Sudan in prayers and praising God for the answered prayers, what a joy that is.  We Had a great time worshiping the Lord together and in intercessory prayer in groups while walking.  Great time of fellowship afterward, what a amazing time to see people from as far as Indio to Orange county and here in San Diego area coming together for the Lord in this ministry which we are all co workers and partners.

The encouragement for me is God’s faithfulness through the saints and the believers and churches here in the US, a reminder we are all together proclaiming the gospel whether by prayers or sending or being in the field.

Many blessings and thanks to all of you who prayed for this,

Sabet Kuj

Kuj Family Trip to England

Sabet, Suzy, Hannah and Jed watching the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace

What a blast we had in England visiting my family and churches for 2 weeks after six long years away.  My sister Emily collected us from Heathrow airport.  I have only seen her with her kids one time in the last 6 years for only an hour during a flight stopover.  She lives only 40 minutes North of Heathrow and 20 minutes from the center of London on the train, so we were very well situated for our visiting and site seeing.

One thing I needed to do was renew mine and Hannah’s UK passports, so Emily had arranged for us to do that in one day during a trip to London.  So much easier than flying from Sudan to Kenya where they send the application to Pretoria, SA and it takes up to 6 weeks!!

One of the joys of serving on the mission field is the other missionaries we meet and the churches that want to hear about our work.  Both weekends while we were in UK we shared our ministry with churches.

10 years ago when I was pregnant with Hannah we attended Mildenhall Baptist Church.  During that time we were only there a few months but the congregation loved on us and prayed over us making us feel so special.  We have so many fond memories of our time fellowshipping there.  Going back and seeing old friends was wonderful and refreshing.  Thank you especially to Jessica who hosted us and cared for the kids while I tried to get over the remnants of my malaria.  We thoroughly enjoyed her spoiling us with fabulous home cooked food.

I also got to visit a couple of friends I went to school with, one I’ve known since I was 12!  It was a bit odd not having my Mum there as she moved to Florida 5 years ago.

My dear Auntie Pat was a fabulous ‘mum’ substitute though, hosting our family so we could catch up with family, cousins and celebrate my birthday.  We walked along Southend promenade, a favorite spot when we were kids, ate icecream and proper English Fish and Chips!!  My dad traveled from the The Isle of Man to spend a few days with us, it really was the perfect birthday for me after being gone for six years.  My kids got to try all my British favorite treats.

Believe it or not we also have a Legoland in UK, which we have in California.  My sister treated us to a family day of fun and Jed was elated as Lego is his favorite toy.  The weather cooperated, we had high 20’s for most of our time in UK, which was the warmest September since 1865!  It was great to have Hannah and Jed spend quality time with their cousins Dylan and Harry.

Another church that we shared with is a Calvary Chapel church plant called Servants Church.  It was planted by US missionaries John and Sarah Brown.  My cousins that live close to the church came and heard us share, it was a brilliant weekend catching up with family and friends.  We had a wonderful time fellowshipping and praying with Pastor John and Sarah and seeing how the Lord is leading their ministry.  They blessed us with a Bed and Breakfast to unwind and relax in, it was fabulous.  We hope to host a team from their church in Sudan next year.

We had the perfect end to a perfect trip by taking the kids to London for 2 days to experience some English culture.  First day we visited the museums, which were free and something our kids never do and eating dinner at the Rainforest Café in Piccadilly Circus!  What a treat.  The second day we went for more touristy stuff: Changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace (made me cry), walked to Westminster Abbey and saw where prince William and Princess Catherine got married (which really impressed Hannah), saw Houses of Parliament and Big Ben (the one thing on Jed’s to-do list) took a boat trip down the River Thames to the Tower of London, saw Tower bridge actually open and let a massive boat through (apparently it only happens about 5 times a month), visited a beefeater at the Tower of London, rode the underground and saw a west end musical for half price. It was brilliant – Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Wizard of Oz starring Michael Crawford!!  The kids were mesmerized; it truly was a memorable and fantastic time.  We ended our day in London having dinner with friends from Kenya, David and Monica Hill.

So that was our holiday in a nutshell. The hardest part was saying goodbye to daddy (Sabet) at the airport as he went to the USA for the prayer walk and we went back to Kenya to get Agum and return to Sudan.
